Live Prevention

Live Prevention is designed to increase public awareness of four critical factors that are the center of the opioid epidemic that the US has experienced in the last few years:

  • Unsafe and unrestricted prescribing practices of painkillers for acute and chronic pain.
  • Incredibly high availability of opioid meds in our households (US has 4% of the world’s population, but consumes 80% of the world’s opioid pain killers).
  • Lack of disposal options: Opioids are easy to obtain but, because they are a DEA controlled substance, they are hard to dispose of, legally.
  • Misperception of safety of opioid meds: They are prescribed by a doctor and made in a pharmaceutical lab. They must be safe, right? Many people misjudge their potential for harm and addiction.

Live Prevention will help link you with information, resources, ideas and community partners that can help effectively address the four contributing factors listed above!

Know The Risks

Opioid meds have an amazing therapeutic value and do help people with many health conditions. However, most people who take opioid meds for pain are not aware of the potential for harm and addiction of this type of medication. They don’t know how opioids work in the human brain and how certain risk factors and conditions may lead to addiction (dependence) to this type of medication. Be smart. Use opioids in a safe manner. Know the risks. Be proactive!
